American Assassin, published in 2010, is the 11th book of a series of novels by the author. It reveals the early days of the protagonist, Mitch Rapp, before he became a world class CIA agent.

Rapp, a 22 year old student of Syracuse University, is waiting for his fiancé to arrive from England. However, her aircraft Pan Am Flight 103 is bombed by terrorists, and the two hundred and seventy passengers onboard the flight die on a cold December night. Unfortunately, she is one of the dead. As thousands of people try to come to terms with this horrific incident, this gifted college student is eager to take revenge.

CIA Director Irene Kennedy presents an opportunity to him to become an undercover agent. Six months of intensive training under Stan Hurley, a legendary espionage agent, prepares Rapp for his mission to get retribution. Like all members of the secret Special Operations Group, he is stripped of his identity, and all official records of his existence are erased. American Assassin shows how Mitch Rapp becomes a person who does not exist and has the responsibility of stopping Islamic terrorists from reaching the United States.

Rapp is sent off to Istanbul, where he finds the arms dealer who sold the explosives that were used in the Pan Am attack. The CIA agent assassinates the Turk with brutal efficiency. The covert Special Operations Group then moves to Hamburg and travels across Europe. They leave dead bodies behind wherever they go. Rapp learns that a CIA agent has been kidnapped in Beirut by Islamic terrorists. He and his team reach the capital of Lebanon to rescue the agent and to teach the terrorists a lesson. However, what Rapp is not aware off is that the enemies know he is coming. Not invisible anymore, what will this CIA agent do to survive in this war-ravaged city?

American Assassin provides a foundation to the life of Mitch Rapp. A thrilling page turner, this novel is packed with action, revenge, and war.
