He teaches her the history of philosophy, covering the popular philosophical movements of the Baroque, Enlightenment, Renaissance, and Romantic periods. She is gradually drawn into the world of great philosophers like Socrates, Descartes, Heget, and Spinoza. While she receives the messages from Alberto Knox, she also receives post cards addressed to another girl, Hilde Moller Knag. These post cards are from Albert Knag, an important character in the novel.
