Summary of the Book

In 1967, Supratik, a boy from a family in Calcutta, becomes involved in student unrest, agitation and extremist political activism. His family is completely unaware of this and it is brought to notice through a note that he left behind. The Ghoshes are a large family, and they do not realize that their lives are about to get turbulent. Their family consists of problems like cunning sisters-in-law, destructive secrets and a family business that is not doing well. This is the story of a family that is troubled while the society around it in disintegrating. Things only get worse as time goes. This story revolves around characters that are ambitious, rich and compassionate. It is an anatomy of a social class and all its contradictions.
